Damn it, I've just had my engine completely rebuilt @ a ... actually I can't bring myself to say to what it cost, not even quickly - it still hurts(!) and all the time I could have just folded my own out of a few bits of A4...

I think this would have cheered TonyN up too as I took "bleedin' eck that's a heavy old lump, I never want to have to do that again" as a sure sign that the Surf engine is big boned

Not quite but it's almost there. The engine has been completely overhauled... new pistons, crank reground, etc... the heart just needs putting in the beast now.

Basically I didn't wash out the radiator after a days offroading, drove home (well partly) at 80mph and didn't look at the temp gauge...
