    i have noticed that some hilux have a diff lock on the front wheels and some dont .. any one know why ????

      they are free wheeling hubs.... not diff locks

        unless thinking of the ADD system?

        that disconects the diff from the driveshaft when not in use... same as locking hubs really, just disconnects the other end.

          i have read the owners manual and it is not mentioned .. so when do u use free wheel ??

            have you got free wheeling hubs then?

            depends if they're auto or manual....

            what did it say about diff locks?

              i have a auto .. it says turn to 4x2 one way 4x4 the other way .. . nothing in book ?? so when do i use them

                Unlock the hubs anytime you don't need 4x4 but lock them every now and then just to keep things free and lubricated. When unlocked saves a bit on mpg and wear and tear.
                With the hubs unlocked you can use low range on tarmac as you won't get windup.
                Mine stay unlocked 95% of the time.
