  • Thermostat question

Hi, when i took my old thermostat off the is a small nipple type thing on it which was at the bottom when installed.

I am almost certain that i read somewher though that this should be at the top when installed.

Can someone please confirm this for me before i reasemble everything

    Thank you

The thermostat you're decribing was an offset one. I just replaced mine with a standard one and just 'chucked' it in, I didn't fit it with the 'nipple' in any particular position, and has been fine.

Yes. Install with it at the top to allow air to escape.

If it can escape from there, wouldn't it be able to get back in??

Escape into the water returning to the radiator, eventualy then to the expansion bottle.

And no it cant get back into the system as it is under around one bar pressure regulated by the release valve in the expansion bottle top.

Sorry, not convinced here. I thought the cooling system would be under enough pressure to force any air out, (the way you describe) with the thermostat in any position?

Its for filling up, so you get as small an air bubble in the system as poss while the stat is shut.
