  • Time to sort out the anti freeze

    Hi All..

    A few questions about anti-freeze!!

When my truck was serviced a fedw months ago they told me that the anti freeze was low and would need sorting by winter...

I have no probs with my cooling system and its full of water,..

    question1 - what antifreeze do i use

question 2 - where do i put it - in the rad???

question 3 - how do i put it in when the system is full?

question 4 - how much do i put in?

    Thanks All

Use a good quality Ethy Glycol antifreeze. I put blue in mine, Toyota recommend red long life.

Give the system a good flush out with a hose pipe with the heater controls set at hot.

Put the antifreeze into the radiator, using a 50/50% mix. Use de-ionised water in the system on re-fill. Water with all the minerals taken out.

Flush out the header tank, and put the same mix into that.

I run mine with the cap off, and let it get hot to get all the air out. The system needs to purge all the air out of it. Put the cap back on, give it a run, let it cool down and check the level again. There are various posts on here that tell you what to do. There are various methods about getting the air out, but what I do does the trick.

Theres a drain tap on the rad. It's on the passenger side down the bottom, facing the engine.

I have just found this whilst searching for info on antifreezing / flushing - its good to hear it from someone with first hand experience - thanks.
Which hose do you disconnect to flush the system out please? - and am I right in thinking I will need around 5 litres antifreeze / 5 litres water?
        Many Thanks
        If you're gonna have one ...... have a good'un!
