get a 413 if you can for a bit of extra power, we have one with a 410 trasfer box and its plenty powerful enough although we dont have massive tyres.
not sure about rust as ours doesnt have any

and the samurai for wider axles...

look for one that's alrady had spoa conversion done and shackle extensions and a roll cage and a bucket seat and, and, and, and,

main areas of rust are the metal parts, but don't worry about that!... cut it out and glue a cornflake box on instead!!

alternatively... buy a buggy based on a V8 rangerover and donut it in the pub carpark.... oh!... i had an awesome day today!... but make sure you empty the water from the NSF tyre first!
nee nar nee nar, i'm a fire engine!

Main rust areas are rear wheel arches, drivers side floor and the sills. If you want it road legal make sure there is no rust within 30CM of the seat belt anchors, seat and body mounts. A certain amount of welding is almost inevitable.

A common fault on 413s is wear in the standard Aisin carb making it rev at 1500 to 1800RPM when hot. Rebuild kits are not available in the UK, so an SU from a Metro and a modified inlet manifold is the way to go (they are less liable to flooding when going up/down hills and over bumpy ground).
If I can think of anything else I will.

PS. This thread belongs in the Basement (AKA Non-Surf Related Off Road Things) so we will prbably be sin binned for discussing Zooks here.
        It's only a hobby!
