I have posted on this subject b4,there is a strange rumbling noise coming from underneath and rear of the car.The rumbling isn't constant but can only be described as "pulse like" and starts around 35mph and gets faster as I travel faster.This is NOT tyre noise,as I have just had 2 new rear tyres fitted and the noise is still the same.I have been underneath the car and nothing is abnormally hot,there is slight play in propshaft when turned,and some slight side to side play in rear shocks,there is also some slight up and down play on both front drive shafts.I think it could be one of the following which could be the problem. Wheel bearing(although wheels don't get hot),drive shaft(s) or dare I say rear diff.Could someone advise me on this please,I don't want to be driving around in an unsafe vehicle with 2 young children on board.Cheers.

my guess would be wheel bearings. They make a pulsing type noise when they are knackered! That noise will get a little louder with speed but mostly the pulsing will quicken.

I doubt it Rob seeing how the bearings are housed. It's also difficult to check if they are goosed the wheels don't wobble as you would expect.Originally posted by RobD
Pull the rear brake drum off and have a look for diff oil......................a sure sign, turn the wheel at same time & you will quickly know the answer.
ps Both mine went goosed but I was running for quite a time before I got round to sorting them, best bet is to get bearings from Roughtrax as the Milner ones have had some bad press lately.....................tha ts if you need them.Last edited by kazam401; 7 October 2005, 17:01.Comment

No m8 it's Dean Motor Company (who are in the process of becoming a main Toyota dealer) in Dumfries,didn't want to run the motor over to Kirkcudbright with buggered bearing.It's pretty damn wet down here at the moment Peter,at least the new tyres are getting tested out on some of these slippy mini roundaboutsOriginally posted by Uplander

The worn bearing has damaged some other component,which was described as "some kind of collar which has something to do with the ABS",so all going well I should have the car back sometime on Monday afternoon.A "simple" thing like getting a worn wheel bearing replaced is going to take best part of a month,and in the meantime I've got no car,so I can't get to work and being self employed,no work no pay!I think I could be having a weekend on the pish to calm me doon!!!!Powered by ????Comment

What they have done is damage the ABS ring whilst removing it, they can be a bugger to remove so they probably cut the thing off, and now you have to pay £28+ to get a new one.Originally posted by RobDComment
