After arguing that the corsa would be as useful as a tin opener, they gave me a chrysler Kalos.
Got my 18v drill, tool bag and 2 boxes of screws in the boot.
Have to be the back seat for owt else I need to take!
But, they have now put my car onto a 24h response, meaning they will pick it up on monday!
Wonder if I tell them to get all the parts from TonyN and Steveo I will stand a chance of getting it back this year?

surely if it's the other party's fault then they have to pay any costs... so don't they pay the extra for you to have a suitable vehicle?

Dont want to have a go at TESCO insurance, they seem to be doing a lot more than DIRECT LINE are doing for my mum, she had an accident 2 weeks ago, they have only just got the car and wont make a decision till later next week!
And they wont provide her with a temp car!

As for a bigger car for me, I can have one, but I pay the difference and then claim it back through the leagle eagle thingy that I have with my policy.
Just dont have the extra money to gamble on a bigger car, wot with the £300 excess that I have to pay, then claim back!

Yet another update for everyone out there.
If, like me you have a 2.4TD on a K plate.
With a tow bar and a Steveo head.
Aparently your Surf is worth £2500 current market value.
Minus £45 for the dull paint on the tailgate.
This is what the Tesco valuator dude said.
                Therefore,
Carrying out repairs listed below is an uneconomical venture and they will right it off.
                The payout is £2100
Which is enough to get a replacement car at equivelant standard.

                QUESTION

Where can you get a K plate surf with a new head for £2500?
And can I have one please.
                Need my Surf back NOW!

This insurance thing is a science isn't it?
I thought If you say that your vehicle is worth e.g. £4500, the insurance people calculate your premium accordingly, so when you come to make a claim for fire or theft, i.e. you no longer have said vehicle you insured, why do they not pay out the "worth" amount?
Or is an insurance certificate just a means for obtaining a tax disc.

I had a similar prob with a 2cv, but by using the 2cvgb club and a local specialist had the value upped from £450 to £1800 result not written off - repaired.
contest the valuation, you do have the right! - offer as proof this site for sale section and see if you can get a valuation from that nice man in Basingstoke - after all he is an expert of the marque, and has a business name to back it up - dont let the buggers screw you mate, this is a thing you can do something about if you are determined and get documentation to back up what you say.
the valuer that I contested admited that he knew nothing about values of 2cv's and as it was not in his guide...guessed....what a dipstick
I expect because surfs are imports they are not in the guide either, give it a go - what have you got to loose?

I am going to phone them in the morning, their task, if they decide to take it, is to buy me a replacement vehical, same spec, minus the front damage, and I will take that instead of any money.
Lets see them in the real world for a change!

I hope they're not using "it's an import" as a get-out clause, 'cos the Surf was in the drop-down multiple choice menu when I applied on line.
                          I'm insured with Tesco too.

                            I couldn't get in-sewer-ants online!
I had to phone up and argue the toss that a surf was not a pickup!
Been proved wrong on this link, but at the time i was sure of it!
                            Surf pickup
And the bible of car prices and current value does not list the Surf.
