Need some help guys as brain aint working too good (and I’m not that hot on spanner work anyway).

Here’s the problem. Went out to the surf today as usual. Pressed the unlock button on the alarm fob and got in.

Inserted key, turned on and waited, as usual, for the beep to sound before turning key to start her up.

Beep arrived, turned key – nothing!

Turned key to off, then back on and she started as normal.

Took misses to work, came back, turned her off, then back on – no problems.

Left her to cool down, then when it was school pick up time went out and had a complete re-run of this morning’s troubles!

    Any ideas?

    Dave

Don't know what that could be. Our trucks are computerised, and some times when you switch them on, the ignition lights up as well as the computer screen, but when you turn the key to start it, nothing. Turn it off, then back on and it fires up ok. Wouldn't be anything to do with either the ignition switch or the immobiliser would it?? I'm no good on electrics.

sorry mate I know what you mean - apart from the keys - nothing inside has been touched - trying to rule as many things out as possible - it's bound to be something simple - but bu66ered if I can see what it is. will try waggling it about tho (stop sniggering)

only does it from cold (ish) start as you cant call today cold.

I had a ROVER VITESSE which did this if not in park properly as the auto box selector was a bit of a pain sometimes.

What started to happen to me when the starter/plunger was on its way out. Various possible scenarios

                    fault on immobiliser
                    Key tumbler in the column
                    Marks suggestion of Gear Selector
                    Plunger/contacts on the Starter Motor
                    Batteries
                    Glow Plugs
                    Gaz

Ok – second day – cold engine.

Went out to Surf, inserted key, waited for the beep turned key – just a ‘click’, tried again – another click.

Turned key all the way off, then turned it back on and she started!

Wife giving me very horrible looks as we meant to be away on hols in 14 days time and she’s now panicking.

You been doing anything different before it started doing this? Been mud bouncing? Usual drill for something like this is check leccy connections are clean and tight....

not a thing - it just seems weird that if I turn the key back off then on - she starts! only does it when the engine is cold so that's something to be thankful for I suppose.

sounds as if its wanting a bit longer to heat/start.......I'm a Diesel numpty but had something like that on an old car and it ended up a connection between battery and starter motor just needed nipping up. Hope you get sorted

                              Renew the starter contacts.
