  • shims to small

when we put a new head on our car thats the seventh surf we have done, we have always had noisy shim the biggest shim you can get is 3.3 from main dealer. all eight was noisy so i took them all out and put shim paper cut round one of the shims and made eight thin shims put them under each shim checked with filer gauges a bit of swopping around we the shims and it is as quite as a mouse done 1500 miles in it drives sweet. if anyone needs any i will send you some in the post as there is plenty at work.
    thank john

ps i done my brothers car and it works perfect as well.

even if you substitute shim for sim, still doesn't make much sense...?

I think he made his own shims. Why that is necessary I do not know because they are available in a number of sizes allready, and you simply use a combination of thicknesses available to do the job.

              why i used shim paper

the gap on the shims were to big even with the biggest shim from toyota which is 3.3 we need about a 3.6 and you can not get that size shim thats why i used thin shim paper under all of the shims many thanks john
