Hi i have a friend with a 1990 Hilux double cab pick up and i was wondering if anyone knows anything about them and are they similar to the Surf?
Cheers
Steve
know a bit, had uk suplied '86 single cab for 11 years before moving onto my current '93 jap double cab. is your friends truck uk or jap? as the japs went to IFS much sooner than the uk. as for similarities to the surfs as far as i can work out they seem to be very closely related overall but bit of a pick'n'mix with exact parts and years ie solid axel only on 1st gen surfs, my IFS d-cab seems pretty much the same as a 2nd gen surf from the b pillars forward but pure truck rear doors back leaf springs not coils etc (cheaper to lift! ) engines are again smilar to range in the surfs but not related to when they were available in the surf.
anyway get him to join up! its close enough.
i pick it up today a Jap import 1990 2.8 double cab.
is there anything special i neeed to know?
nothing really special comes to mind, just that if its got independant front suspension the nasty grinding noise you get on full lock will probably be the front steering stops! not to serious, just needs a spot of grease, worrid me a bit when it happend as i back out of the garage having just bought mine! happy to see another trucker on here.
Alas!!!! dude, IFS sucks offroad, solid axles will get you much further.
Go get it muddy!!!
IFS is fine dont listern to him he's only jelious cos he aint got it........
