  • Ooops, my ariel just popped out!

Jumped in my Smurf this morning looking forward to listening to Terry Wogan whilst on the way to work. Up went the ariel, and up and up and then the two top parts popped out leaving the white belt type thing dangling in the beautiful morning sun.

    'Oh bugger.' I thought.

So I switched off my stereo and it only retracted half way in, and now sits there, wobbling in the glorious afternoon sun, all quiet like.

Any suggestions? How do I get to the bloomin' thing? Anyone got a drawing/sketch of the mechanism?

    Cheers
    Damian

Just a thought, the bloke who had my Surf before I owned it, had a roof mounted ariel like the standard car ones fitted. (The standard one is just disconn'd). It's out of the way, shouldn't get bent off roading, and is easily removed,

Yeah, I was looking enviously at those on the way home from school earlier. Someone else would have to drill the hole though, I wouldn't trust myself!

You know, the more I think about it, the more I want an ariel like Karen lee has on her Golf, and like on most modern cars. Think I'll price them up tomorrow.

Ahhh, two things though, what if I fit a roof rack for my canadian open canoe I haven't got yet. And second, happy 300 posts to me!

Why not remove the existing ariel and go for a large whip antenna

A little dink with the centre punch to locate the centre. Drill hole. If you want to get really posh you can drill a pilot hole and use a steel hole punch. It's very satisfying..............honest ?

only prob with roof mounts is all the single story car parks that for some reason think its a good idea to have barriers above the entry just at surf arial hight (standered one in wing that is not roof mount arial)...
