I notice on hippo's sunroof (I am sure Hippo is NOT alone in this) there is a little vent that rises as the roof opens, mine has velcro on it.

My question is this - what was attached with the velcro ??

It is clear that whatever it was would be tucked down before the roof slides over it.

The answer is nothing. I've had several cars with sunroofs that have the little popup bit, they've all had the 'velcro'. I think it's just a kind of ribbing strip to stop metal on metal contact.

Yeah, I think its to stop the plate rattling when closed.
