stupid auto box question

never had an auto before so do you need to press the top button on the shifter when moving between D and Neutral or is the lock there to stop you jamming it in reverse or park when still moving forwards?

it appears that you can pop it from drive to neutral, and from neutral to drive. You can pop it from Drive to 1 and/or 2... can back to drive, everything else seems to need the button (can't remember...) You do need to touch the foot brake to move it after turning the ignition... sure there is something about that in the (badly translated) hand book...
