    Hello

i'm looking at buying a 3.0TD SSR-X specifically to tow a 21ft caravan which my Freelander is struggling to do. Does anyone tow with their HiLux? The dealer says it'll do the job, but then again he would as he's trying to sell a car.

any help or advice most welcome

For stability the recommended criteria for towing anything is the trailer shouldn't weigh more than 85% of the gross weight of the towing vehicle - the Surf weighs around 2 tons so that is an awful lot of caravan. I regularly tow a double horse trailer with my 3lt without any problems at all.

wouldn't it reduce the nose weight to reverse it onto the trailer?

85% of the towing vehicles weight? so tonys trailer weighs -15% of a surf then....
                        it's in me shed, mate.

Its just Matt, trying to look smart in front of the girls......

Slug dude, the Bullet needs a drop plate to run level with that trailer cos of the +2" springs (which I forgot to throw in the truck when we left), if I reduced the nose weight, the ass of the trailer is too close to the floor. So we had the trailer level with all 4 wheels evenly loaded, and let the Bullet sort itself out. Which it did!
