fixed it! wasn't clutch problem after all, back axel was loose!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 
bit of a worry when i noticed, u bolts holding axel to leaf spings had worked loose leaving about 1/8" of play between spring/lift blocks/axel perches. much better now with new u bolts, keep a better eye on these.
