  • Halfords service in Ireland

I see Halfords are getting of to a flying start here in Ireland.

Called in today to get a CV boot for Sam's Opel Vectra, and while queueing at the parts counter could overhear a lady having difficulty getting a bulb for her car. she had a 93 Opel Vectra, but as the guy insisted there was no Opel Vectra in 93 he could not get her a bulb, I suggested he look for a 93 Vaux Cavalier instead which he duly found.
Obviously they have not realised that a different county brings different cars and naming conventions, without updating their database for the Irish market they'll have lots of fun.
Next up the guy couldn't find the bulb for the cavalier listed, so to put him out of my misery I just told him to grab a H4 and fit it which he duly did.

Next customer along wanted an oil filter for a 1.4 VW Bora, same story again, computer insisted there was no 1.4, stumped again, cross examining the customer who was rightly insistent that it was a 1.4, and he always bought them in this shop without difficulty before the halfords take-over. All seemed well when again I chipped in suggesting he try a 1.4 Golf listing instead, yippee found a part number for it, bur oo er not in stock!

Still at least they had a split boot for me to make my task easier.

I'm rapidly beginning to understand the very high level of esteem in which most of you guys hold Halfrauds!

Ah well, back to work for me, time to fit that CV boot....

Had the same problem trying to get a distributor cap and rotor arm for my wife's M reg 1.3 Polo. They know it exists (makes a change) but because it's only a 1 year model they don't stock it. Went to the local VW dealer. Didn't have one in stock but there within 24 hours and no more expensive that Halfrauds.

Thanks, that's just down the road from me but in an IE that I never get too. I always used to use either Swedeutch or Four Circles when living in Bristol as they were always good for Type 2 parts for my camper van.
