        Hi Cheese,

The first auto I drove was an underpowered MKII Escort that I had converted to hand controls for my first wife who was disabled. Now if you want to try weird, try driving without using your feet at all. But once you get used to it, it's far easier than driving a manual car, as you only have to worry about using one foot.

My current partner had never driven an auto when I was looking to get the Surf. I took her out in it with the dealer's permission, driving on trade plates and she go used to it in about 15 mins. Now she drives it and tows the caravan as well. She finds it easy to drive, so much that when we eventually change her car, we're going to look for a small automatic deisel for her.

Go for it. Why do you think they don't let people who pass their test in an automatic drive a manual on the road - it's so much easier to do. You can almost drive "on automatic" as there's little to think about other than pointing the wheel in the right direction. Once you get hooked you really won't want to go back to a manual.

Hello everyone me again, the one with all the questions.
I have spoken a friend of mine who immports cars from Japan, he got me my current car, which is up for sale if anyone is interested in buying a skyline, anyway he told to stay clear of 2.4td surfs as they are terrible and unreliable, he told me spend a bit more and go for the 3.0td as it is a much better engine.

If I get a 2.4td will I be recieving "I told you so" from him or can I laugh in his face?? or is worth investing that little bit more and getting the 3.0l

Please give comments on these engines as I have seen a 2.4 G-reg manual that I am really interested and am going to view on Sunday.

          Thanks (again)

              Hi cheese,

              I've had 2 surfs now. My first was a '87 auto 2ltr petrol and now I've got a 2nd gen '95 2.4tdi Manual

I've not had any prob's with either they have never let me down, box choice is obviously a personal thing but having driven both I would have to say I prefer the manual. I got bored driving the auto?!

Not having driven the 3.0 I can't offer any advice on which engine is better but I will say the 2.4 seems capable enough.

Gotta remember its a 2 ton truck and not a sports car but it should provide enough smiles just in a different way.

These are only personal insights but I hope they may be of some use.

              Happy Hunting

thanks Kes, I really do appreciate everyone's input, it always better to hear loads of people's opinions instead of just one person. The only thing I'm not sure about on the one I have seen is the red interior, but I'll have to see it in the flesh. As I feel the manual box and bull and tow bar are more important.
