  • Veg oil - damn good price!!

    Hi all,

Found a very good price on new veggie oil last night.....Asda have reduced the price of theirs... 3lts = £1.32 (down from £1.53) .....that's a mere 44ppl. And being in 3ltr bottles, you don't need to purchase so many bottles of the stuff.
    Woo-hoo!
    Motoring has just got cheaper!
I've only just bought my Surf, so I'm doing a fuel consumption check while un-modified now, then another with the EGR pipe disconnected, then another with it re-connected and running with veg oil, then finally one with no EGR and running with veg oil.
    Should be interesting!!
I'll keep you all posted on what I find out.

    Rob.

p.s. I visited a large SVA centre today, and to get all the diesel imports through their tests, they disconnect the EGR system as a matter-of-course to improve emissions and make them pass easier.
Thought that'd make an interesting fact.

    *Update - 26/4/05*
First tank of fuel - no mods - very mixed driving....25½mpg.
    (467kms~292miles on 51.8ltrs~11.4gals=25.6mpg)
EGR pipe is off, ready for the next test. I'll keep you all posted.

    *Update - 04/5/05*
Second tank of fuel - EGR pipe disconnected - mixed driving (though 75m/way miles....25mpg.
    (473kms~296miles on 53.6ltrs~11.8gals=25.0mpg)
And with the pipe disconnected there was no massive difference in performance.

50:50 veg oil - diesel next!!

im all confused and flustered, hehehe

do you just pour the veggie oil straight down the fuel filler cap then, if so, how much at a time

I'm getting more and more interested in this veg oil idea, but it seems that one of the main draw backs is the smell - so how wiffy is a veg oil burning truck?
Would you know about it from down the street, or only if you stood next to the exhaust? I don't really want the neighboars cats making sweet love to my engine

Far be it for me to be the party pooper,

                      but,

Make sure the C&E have you "entered" before running veg oil or they may not be happy bunnies, and I would hate to see any surfer sat on by them.

Yes it will be known that you are running veg oil, and it doesn't take much to create that familiar whiff

but view it a s a badge of honour for doing the green thing

How much do c&e take for their 'cut'? Do you have to tell them every time you fill up??
                          It just does, OK?

Their cut, if you are mixing veg with dino is 27.1p per litre, and you will find you get a form from them once a month when you have been registered.
