  • Air intake sensor ?

Can anyone tell me what this sensor does? I presume that it measures the air temperature entering the manifold but why?
Reason I'm asking is that while having a quick look around under the bonnet I noticed that mine was not connected and as its not the type of connection that can just fall off I would think that it's not been fitted all the time i've had the Surf.
Anyway I reconnected it and guess what ! --- no different, how dissappointing.

Hotter ther air - lower the density - therefore less air getting into the engine. The other ingredients are eye of newt and tongue of toad.

Thanks for the reply, I spose that that information is fed into the "computer" which adjusts the mix of air and fuel accordingly, anyhow it's managed ok without it up to now.
      Thanks again
