So after going over everything after the 4wd not disingaging I have narrowed it down to the 4wd computer...I think. and now on the hunt for another one. This place has been a god send so far for information while I have been fixing up the surf and now hopefully someone will be able to help with a replacement 4wd computer...Fingers crossed.

I have removed my ECU before but not sure where the 4WD ECU is located. Once you find it, you can send it to the ECU doctor (They might also work with 4WD ECUs), they might be able to fix the fault or even to tell yu that it's fine and the fault lies elsewhere.

Good idea, I didn't think about trying to get it fixed...for some reason. Will have a search and see where I can find that can help me.
