  • Sky + Installation

Nothing surf related but I could do with some help.
I currenntly have sky and want to upgrade to sky plus.
Sky want 399 and 60quid to install it.
THEN: I found a guy on ebay who will sell you the top of the range box (160gig) for 299 plus vat and hes said I just have to buy a quad lnb (10quid) which you jsu unplug your current one from the dish and plug this one in. then do a few things on the box and away you go.
However I am confused as I currently only have 1 cable that runs from my dish to the sky box, is this going to be able to take 2 signals which is what i understand you require for sky plus or do i need to install an additional cable for the second feed?

Since then i have looked around the net for this information but with no luck, however there are lots of pages (mainly on forums) out there saying its an easy job but no real explaination as to this problem.
I have also found www.thedigiboxshop.com and they will do the box plus the reciever and an additional remote and magic eye for 326.69 which is a very good and tempting offer. I am just scared to do it myself, has anyone else done this upgrade or do they know if its an easy thing to do?
    Cheers

I have Skyplus, it really is the best thing since sliced bread. It is as simple as the weblink says, Skyplus needs 2 feeds from the LNB, and you can always use the redundant normal Sky box in another room (needs another-3rd-feed from the LNB). If you don't want to mirror your first Sky card and save £10 you can get a card for free that will give you all the free to air channels. This gives the same channels as Freeview.

I bought my Sky plus from an independant dealer last Nov, it cost me £250 and they sent an independant installer around who fitted it in about 20 mins (no extra cost)

        - best thing i have bought for a while

Hi mate, you should use a quad LNB for but bear in mind you have 4 feeds to run from the LNB, 2 to the SkyPlus box and then 2 anywhere else... a spare sky box perhaps?
I used to work for Myers Satellite in London who also own Technomate... look here Myers and contact the London brach... call and speak to Alan. WHat he doesnt know isnt worth knowing and they should be able to sell you a decent quad LNB depending in your dish.
They also sell the magic eyes/remotes etc etc very cheaply! They might sell the sky plus boxes too although not sure if they still stock them.
My brother also works there and they can probably give you installers contacts too as you only in Staines.
          Good luck
