Security Tips?

I realize this is not a Surf specific query but wondered if anyone had any advice on security systems. I have an immobiliser fitted but the local hoods have broken into the car four times now since owning (for about 18 months) and my insurance premium is going to go through the roof if I can't get something sorted soon. Apart from upgrading to alarm and finding a garage which is going to be a mini mortgage (and leaving the dog in the car) does anyone have any cunning suggestions?

Apart from fitting unslightly deadlocks or delocking the doors so a remote only keyfob opens and shuts the locks , I do not know . If a t****r wants in through a door thats it .After that they will go through the windows .
Depends if they are wanting to steal from the car or actually steal the it .
Anyone else ?

Yes, they wanted the stereo, the front panel is taken out of the vehicle but they decided to SAW through the dashboard this time and take the whole system, can just about put the handbrake off now as its been well and truly mangled this time...grrrr

If you have the vehicle in a area surrounded by privates...rip them em and replace by the thorn bushes [cant remember what they're called]. That way they have to come up the driveway....

Other than that..as its been mentioned..if they wanna get in they'll get in...



Final answer......catch em and cut their hands off..don't think they'd be doing it again

Berberis Julianae is what you want, thorny as ????. Also if not fitted try an LED in a visual place in the motor.

Im lucky enough to park on the drive most of the time so Surf is under my bedroom window. I have a TOAD AI606 (Cat 1) and I use a Stoplock Pro (Cat 3) too... Also i think black windows all round from rear doors back helps.

NOt had any trouble yet but my old astra had deadlocks on it, they broke and got in through the fonrt window then ripped all the stereo out back to front! If I had a big enough sub they wouldnt have been able to get it out though as they couldnt open the doors.

You can also go to 5% tints on the front windows (current legal limit)... but get a high metallic content film... seems to reflect more light. You can now do the windscreen too. This will reduce the ambient light inside the vehicle...

Once they are in, as mentioned before, if they want in, they will get in...

Wire up a few sets of air horns... inside the cabin...

This is totally illegal, these petty thieves have more rights than you do, and if you injure them going about their business, you will get done for it.

Just make sure you never trip the alarm whilst you or your loved ones are in the car.

You could also disable the internal door locks, so that they are run solely on the alarm, and get one of those tasty smoke canisters that TOAD used to do...

Your car alarm goes off... (air horns inside... on a timed relay... about 15 minutes should do it) you call the police... perps are still caught inside coughing their guts up.

I don't sound bitter at all do I...

Just catch them, and explain to them the erro of their ways.

Put a pin code keypad on the dash and wire in a sawn off shotguns pointing up at 45 deg angles under the seats. If anyone breaks in you just use the pressure washer to hose them out .

What about rigging the alarm system so that it locks them in and fills the car with CS gas?

A colleague at work was telling me about some sachets that you can cable tie to your radio wiring loom that you arm after fitting. If they are disturbed they will dye the scumbags skin blue and/or green. Apparantly it takes three to four days of scrubbing to get the stuff off but it will wash off fabric. You ring the police and tell them the gits will have blue hands. You know they are there and can remove them before doing any work under the dash. He gets them from France but I guess they will be illegal here, like MACE or anything else you can use to protect yourself/property.

I am keeping one of the 18" offcuts of the tube that Jon gave me for a special occasion

Mind you, you'd have to wash the sick out.

you can get a little jobby for a shed door that holds a shotgun cartridge(obviously minus the load) its spring loaded and goes bang when the door is opened. these attach to the 6mm bolt on the back of a stereo very easily, wire the pin to something solid and bingo. it wont hurt (badly) the burglier, but it will make him think twice...DO NOT PLAY TRICKS ON HALFORDS STAFF WITH THIS!

I set up a ultrsonic alarm once in my car and at the time i was giving some work mates a lift home....hehehe


You guessed it I set it and i delayed getting in the car followed by 130 decibel siren inside the car .. I`m sorry but i was in tears and they had ringing in their ears all the way home Im a big kid at heart really

At work we have some 130dB sirens with strobe lights and they are 12V. They are meant for attracting your attention in noisy environments like substations.........
