  • What is a 4x4?

Like most of us I've read about all the moves to ban our favourite form of transport. However, one thing that all these 'articles' fail to address is:

    What is a 4x4?

Seems a bit obvious at first, but then you think about it a bit and it's suddenly not quite so obvious.

So, is it actually possible to come up with a legal description of a '4x4' vehicle such that it includes all of the vehicles that 'the man in the street' would classify as a 4x4, and nothing else?

You can't do it on all wheel drive, plenty of saloon cars have that, and what about part time 4wd (like out Surfs)?
You can't do it by size, most estates take up more road space than pretty much any off-roader, and what about the little Suzukis?
You can't do it by off-road ability, because that is not something that is easily quantifiable.
You can't do it by fuel consumption, your average Ferrari or Lamborghini does much worse.

So come on, can it be done?

A 4x4 is the latest scapegoat for people who need a worthless cause to fight for with only half the facts instead of having a real job they have to work at.

That's probably about as accurate a description as is possible.

Hmm, I wonder if I could get that on a bumper sticker.....

That was a bit cruel leaving him with all the chores to do!

The poor guy is gonna need a good rest this weekend after having to do the horses, sorting the dogs out, and all the other animals. Plus keep the house clean ready for your homecoming.

Also I bet he had a big list of jobs to do on all the motors.

And all that inbetween going to work.

Tony our hearts go out to you mate!
