Seems like my last post has gone AWOL & i could not post for some reason, so here i am again.

In my first post i was asking for advice on which models to stay clear of if any, i think i am lookin for a 3ltr to tow a horse box & a motorbike trailer for my track bike, will a manual be better suited for towing?

Has anyone any experience of buying one of these through an import specialist?

Look forward to your vast knowledge & thanks for the welcome re my last post.

I am looking for a Surf right now, so advice would be grateful peeps.

    Keep it real....ayyye!

not to sur about different models as they all have the same running gear , the 3 is said to be better than the 2.4 but the jury is still out on that , if it is an import then it is probably going to be auto and i cant tell you about towing as i havent done it with mine but plenty of others have and the should post if they see the message.
i would have thought that auto would do the job better than a manual as the weight of the trailer should act as a weight to slow the car down so should need less braking .
so much to do , so little money , so little time

            St Marys Garage

Rob, i checked out their stock on saturday (was not impressed i'm afraid), but have found a better local supplier at Dunragit (ISE distribution), they are also about a grand cheaper for the same vehicle, their main biz is motorcycles & Grand Prix clothing but have become involved in imports & are making a real name for themselves, i do not work for them, just impressed with what they have to offer.

            You in Dumfries then Rob?

                Iain,

Your previous post did get out but it was obviously lost in the BIG BANG, I replyed asking what you intended to tow and you mention a Horse Trailer, My missus tows a Horse trailer with two VERY big Gee-Gees 17 feet (or is it Hands???), our motor is a 2.4TD manualand it does struggle a bit on the hills, but it tows the boat like a dream.

We have decided that when the bank manager is in a better mood, we will look at changing up to a 3.0ltr. As to the Automatic v Manual I would think that the auto box will need extra cooling fitted, but I am sure someone else will be able to advise better on that.

Good luck with your hunt. I am sure you wont regret your choice the Surf is brilliant.

Also enjoy the forum there is a lot of knowledge out there and even more fun to be had.

Aye Rob, they give a warranty & do the full valet, change belts and anything else that needs attending to, the quality of vehicle they are turning out is Grade 5, they are in the old building on the A75 at Dunragit that Aprilia motorcycles were in, they are in the process of doing a website for the vehicles at the moment, right now their site is motorcycle related.
