Test drive today

Hi guys. Today I managed to get a test drive in a J plate SSR-X 2.4 TD that was for sale at a local dealer for about £5K. No intention of buying, just getting a feel for them before I start looking proper.

Thing is, driving the thing near on scared the hell out of me, this thing was squirming and rocking and rolling like a bucking bronco. Admittedly it was on the country lanes surrounding the dealer, but I took a random frontera out after as a benchmark and it rode in a much more car like manner.

Is it normal for a surf to handle like this?...

Wrong tyre pressures, knackered shocks, springs did you try the hard setting on the suspension

I tried both, nothing seemed to change.

The only thing you will get if you push it hard is the back to slide out on the wet....like the capri as its rear wheel drive......certainly sounds like the suspension/shocks have got problems.

the one thing that amazes all my mates is how you can rag surfs round lanes and the general lack of body role. its not just mine either, with the amount around here you will follow one regularly trying to keep up!

i agree
One of the reasons i bought a Surf was the lack of roll for the size of the car. This is compared to Landys & taller MPVs.
As for shifting... that was a nice try away from the lights on Huddersfield ringroad by the bloke in the Navara, better luck next time
