Which is the best diesel

All being well, I will be getting myself a double cab hilux...
What is the best allround turbo diesel engine, most power, most frugal or which is chipppable?

What sort of year? the best double cabs IMHO are 2.8 imported trucks from 93-98ish

2.4 are average, 2.8 is better and can be but only import trucks, newer trucks have the D4D motor (whatever that is) with is suposed to be nice.

Most surfs here are 2.4 or 3.0TD of which the 3.0 is a top motor, but I don't think they ever went in a pickup.

There have been many diesel engine varients fitted to the Surfs, not sure how many of these are applicable to Surfs and how many to the pick ups, but the engines you will find should be one of these.....

D4D engine is a peach, Common Rail Diesel, bit noisier than a well tuned older engine but pulls like a train.

Frugal & chippable? Chipped engines are never frugal. Simple laws of physics- you want more power, you need to feed the engine more fuel (and air)! There's only so much energy in the fuel.
