  • Where to install CD & speakers ?

I know some of you have installed bigger speakers and multiplay CD's but where is the best place to mount a 12 disc changer. I have the head unit fitted but the front speakers have absolutely no bass coming through them at all, i think it has been filtered out, i will be buying replacement speakers for the front but want to fit some decent seakers in the back 6x9 or 7x10 but not sure where to mount them, i do regularly have to carry a large dog cage so that limits space a bit.Anyone got any good ideas or done similar already???
If it aint broke...........give it some more abuse!!!!!!!!

I fitted my jvc changer in one of the rear pockets. had to take the panel off to get it in. Left the rear speakers in as they are not to bad and replaced the front ones with 100mm sony xplods. All sounds ok to me.

Not replaced or added any speakers yet, but Ive also put my Kenwood changer in one of the back lockers. I didnt even fix it in, just packed it out with the polystyrene (sp) that came in the packaging and it has never once so much as jumped or moved even when offroading.

You won't get good bass from the front doors without sound deadening them with dyno mat or similar. Then build some custom pods for the front door using mdf and silicone to seal any holes. Buy a good pair of 7 to 9" two way 'rounds' (infintiy/alpine or whatever your budget will allow) and some dash tweeters. All you'll need in the rear then is a sub if you really want some bass. Best and loudest setups are built without rear directional speakers, but you'll really need to run the fronts (and def' a sub) through an amp to achieve a nice sound. Also don't scrimp on the speaker cable. Use Oxygen free gold-even if you kept your existing setup and changed the cable you'd notice the difference. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the help peeps, think i have the speakers sorted, found some Pioneer pods which will mount on the rear pillars either side of the back window, just the CD player i cant quite suss as it wont fit in either of the side pods as it is too big to get in and still access the cartridge, also cant mount to rear of back seats as the dog cage sits back against the seats, may have to make a box for it and mount it to the side panel above the wheel arch.

Can anyone recommend some good (but cheap if poss) speakers that I can use as direct replacements for the front speakers? I think one of them has blown (very nasty grating sound if there is anybass) and needs replacement.

Thanks, have just managed to muster up the common sense to remove all fixing brackets and unnecessary bits from the changer and it just fits in the rear pocket(with a little technical assistance)doesnt need any packing either, made to measure!! Cheers

Cheers Mark. Unfortunately it's very rare that I pass through that area. If however you bump into NorthWestDirt at any point then maybe he could pass them on (we work at the same place).

I have a 6 disc alpine S634 or something like that and that fitted in nicely, cartridge facing up and fixed in with lots of sticky pads but it fell off . Now I have used the top fixing bracket with cartridge facing right... can just get it out but it still fits.
Managed to jam a cd in the machine though when I was bouncing around at the Plains, sorted now though

                          Guys,

I want to keep my sound system original. When I purchased my 94 3.0l
there was no cd changer in it. Anyone know where I can get a used one, or what brand will work with the original Toyota head unit

All the Toyota original equipment ones are crap and last months rather than years (this is only a slight generalisation). The connection betwen the radio head and the cd player is custom DIN and wont work with any other equipment. You can pick double DIN units up from ebay quite often - a lot of Jap stuff uses double DIN size and it will be a straight swap. You may also find a cd player to match yours (make sure its the right year because the interconnectors on later equipment are square not DIN round, but is it worth it when it will only prob last a few months anyway?

Try this for example (be quick!) http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...sPageName=WDVW

I got a cheap Panasonic RDS radio/CD player for £90 and blanked off the space with a plate. Looks & sounds fine - even got green digits to match Surf lighting.

                            Cheers
