"We are now the sole agent for Elsbett"

Any idea if there is an agent in central Scotland? I emailed Elsbett with same equestion - no answer - 0 out of 10 for customer relations so far.

Perhaps you can enlighten me. My understanding is that most guys on this forum don't have any type of kit fitted and have run in some cases for years without hassle. So what's the advantage in fitting the kit - it'd have to be good for nearly £600. I believe it can be as much as £1200 if you get an Agent to fit (how much do you charge?). I know that in theory you should be safer to run with higher concentrations of veg oil than without a kit but even Elsbett make clear on their website that adding diesel in winter is advisable. So are the real benefits to be found in preserving power and fuel consumption?

There isn't O/D, its torque converter lock-up. For the symptoms you describe, I'd check your ATF. If you haven't changed it for a while, do so. It's a cheap potential fix before you start to look at expensive things.

(Though more knowledgable people will be along shortly to confirm / shoot me down )

        Elsbett kit

        Dear Tavvi,

An Elsbett kit allows you to run on 100% SVO in all seasons*, without questioning whether you are damaging your engine in the process.

The problems with mixing are too many to list here but can be summed up as follows.
When mixing diesel or solvent with vegetable oil you are attempting to reduce the viscosity nearer to that of diesel. As the viscosity of vegetable oil is largely dependent on temperature, getting this mixture correct in a changeable climate is almost impossible to do. You would have to watch the weather reports and try to predict what temperatures are expected and pre-empt this by changing the mixture in your tank and fuel pump.

A far more practical suggestion is to fit a comprehensive kit that takes out all the guesswork. The Elsbett system ensures your engine starts instantly and then supplied with uniformly warmed vegetable oil fuel at a viscosity close to diesel. If the engine does not start immediately and is supplied cold fuel, the un-burnt fuel can contaminate the lubrication oil to the extent of turning it solid. Un-burnt fuel may also coke the injectors / valves, EGR / inlet manifold and piston rings.

*(in consistent very cold weather, <5 deg cel, the addition of some winter diesel may be necessary)

We charge €1850 to fit a kit to a 3.0TD Surf. The kit may be ordered as a DIY fit from http://www.elsbett.com/ie/online-shop.html for €790 plus shipping and VAT. We do not have an agent in Scotalnd, yet. However, a competent fitter/mechanic should have no trouble fitting it in 2 days.

        Best regards,

        Allen

You can make your own twin tank one for less than £200. I bought all the bits bt couldn't be bothered to fit it and now run with a veggie heater. I put 100% n the summer and am running 3 veg-1 derv at the moment. Veg heater was very easy to fit, took about 3 hours.

I got the twin glow plug 1 sold by Saverbee on ebay. Capt Chaos has this as well. Simple to fit and it's fitted after the filter. Paid about £80 I think. All I have is the heater. Here it is: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Vegetable-Oil-...QQcmdZViewItem

I used what came with the kit. I can't recall specifying anything. I guess you could pull the pipe off the filter and measure there. You get a length of fuel hose with it any way.
