  • cv boot

Ok guys, my cv boots torn. Looking at millners web site theres an inner and a outer. Whats the difference and how do i know which one i need, oh the boot thats buggered is on the passenger side if that makes any difference.

I also need the flexy hose bit that comes from the air filter, thats also got a tare in it. Is that the TOP COVELUTED TUBE as millners describe.

One more thing, i,m going one my first off road day on sunday, is there anything i can do to keep the crap out of the cv joint till i get the new boot fitted.

    thanks in advance scotty

the inner one is nearest the diff the outer one is nearest the wheel.

wouldn't get any dirt near it if you're going off road!

a'spose you could always zip tie some strong plastic over it, but i wouldn't risk it!... not only ruin the cv joint, but could lock the bearing on your travel home and make you crash.
nee nar nee nar, i'm a fire engine!

heres an exploded one. the inner end is to the left and the outer joint is at the bend in the axle. looks to me like the boots are slightly different in size, i could check, theres a complete axle on the bench in the shed.

I posted this yesterday and no-one replied (humbug)
Anyway no one told me to not go on the Plains with a dodgy CV boot although I havent looked at it yet mechanic said at some time fix it and its only a tiny split (I hope)
How do i replace it once I figure out if its inner or outer thats gone. Its about time i got my hands dirty for once... tho' I did service all my electric windows the other day
        Ta muchly

Thanks guys. it looks like is the outer boot that i need, its the one you can see if you look in through the wheel arch.

I'll go and get some tie raps and a thick black bin bag and see what i can do. Its my fist off road experience and i,m gagging to go.

Do you think it would be a good idea to pump some greese into it before it fanny it up with the bin bag?

          Thnak again for your advice
          cheers scotty
