  • Hello from a new member

Just wanted to say 'Hi' as a new member. This is a great site with lots of information!

My 'new' car is a 92 Surf ssr-x 2.4 tdi auto in black with mirrored windows, cool looking truck!

I worked in the states a few years ago and had an 89 Toyota SR5 long wheelbase pickup. It was a v6 petrol auto and had a shell over the back.
My friend is still running it at 150,000 miles with no major problems.

So back in London I was looking at Pajero 's as I fancied something different for my 19th car; until I took a few for a test drive... I knew then it had to be a surf!

I have sorted out insurance cheaply thanks to the insurance FAQ's now I just need an MOT and service as I will be driving to Austria for the winter working in the snow.

This site is a great resourse .... CHEERS!

Welcome to the crazy world of Surfdom. There isn't another forum like this one in the UK. I have been checking a few other car related ones out and they seem very sober in comparison.

Enjoy the surf and the fixed grin accessory that comes with it. Hope yours has the winter pack.
            It's only a hobby!

                Thanks for the welcome!
I do have 2 batteries and a rear heater & screen demister so it may be the winter pack (just did a search on 'winter pack')

The car was last owned in Osaka(southern Japan) so I don't know if it was the 'Northern Pack' or 'Snow Pack'. Last Winter I worked in Niseko, in the northern Island of Hokkido. There is loads of snowfall there being next to Siberia. Every model of car down to the smallest hatchback had 4wd.

Living in Japan made me appreciate the care they put into everything.

Some cars had electric lighted number plates which looked cool. Until I found out that they belonged to convicted drink drivers and was a way of shaming them and showing the public who the were. Good idea for the UK?

I will post photos soon (when I read the FAQ on how to do it)!

                cheers, Paul

p.s. still want to find a good garage in NW London - any experiences please let me know.....

                    Thanks for the welcome.

I had a brilliant time snowboarding in Austria and the Surf was so much fun in the snow.

One night it dropped to -28c and even with antifreeze the radiator top got frozen. I didn't know until I was driving along and steam was everywhere after it cracked.

Got it to a mechanic - new radiator - and everything has been fine since!

Just had the 100,000km timing belt change done cheaper thanks to info on this site. Cheers.

                    Heres my ride:

Note the Epsilon 3-part alloy wheels - I wonder what they cost new? Probably what I paid for the truck!
