  • face full of diff oil - diff breather?

changing oil in rear diff last w/e, i got a face full of oil when i undid the filling-nut on the rear diff as a blast of air came out of it, Guess this means the diff breather is blocked? as it should be pressurised
any tips on sorting this out?

Yeah rip the breather off and fit some pipe to it taking it up high, stops water etc gettting in the diff.

you should check the seals in the brake drum as the pressure can dislodge them and cause a leak into the drum which can affect the braking
so much to do , so little money , so little time

thanks - id better check that,
been meaning to take a look in the drums, havent done that yet.
but looked through the spy hole to make sure the pad thickness was ok

If you've got a fluid leak in a brake drum it can only be one of two things, brake fluid or diff oil. Whip the drum off and carefully inspect the brake cylinder - these are prone to leaking and are a cheap item which should be replaced the first time you do the brake shoes. If it's not the cylinder then its the axle seal - simple ain't it
