Dash upgrade?

Has anyone tried just replacing the dash bulbs with a different colour?
I think the '286 type' and '501 type' capless bulbs are available in green, blue ,amber and red.

I know the original ones have a thin green rubber sleeve on them to give a green tint to the backlight.

take the green sleeve off and use glass paint then you can have any coulor you want. even black lol
