Nikki, I see you ask this question, quite a lot. Most Surfs are auto, manuals are not so common. Having said that AUTO is best. So if youre looking for a Surf dont go ruling out anything because of the gearbox

thanks. i'm going to be towing a horse trailer with it though and have been advised that auto are better to tow with.

sorry for the delay in responding i was away for the weekend
the Surf is automatic
it doesn't have a tow bar but i think my dad has one spare as he recently sold his caravan
if you're interested i am sure we can work something out

In my opinion (for what its worth)

The Auto box gives a very smooth ride, the Manual box on the surf seems to be unhappy in a few spots, Around important speeds it needs a lot of changing gear.

Its a fairly common thing, The early versions of the mk 6 hilux with a manual box are hell around 30mph.

as far as any offroading is concerned an autobox can make even the newest fans of the sport a total pro.

All in all, its just better.
