2nd or 3rd gen? Side steps any good?

Hi

Is this a 2nd or 3rd gen surf? I thought 96 was the change over, but i'm not too sure. If 3rd gen, how damaged is the side? I need a pair of side steps, especially the passengers side. It will be a 3rd Gen as the 2.7l was not in the earlier Surfs.
