Try Halfords for Thule bars. If you've got roof rails on the Surf then they should have something to fit as the foot pack for roof rails is "fairly" universal. You'll probably also need the 761 bars.

Yep, we saw them in the little book too, so we persuaded a fitter to open a box with the foot pack in and try them on our Surf, but they did not fit

I was told by the chap at Roughtrax (who sell Thule stuff), that Thule no longer make a foot that fits in the roof tracks on the 3rd gen. What you can get though is the foot, well, feet that clamp on the edge of the roof/inside the tops of the doors.

Found the thule part numbers and the pdf file from thule themselves:-
                  http://www.thule.com/PabloImages/Document/68/1668.pdf
Page 2 ,diagram 2, the diamond shapped channel nuts will not fit securely therefor:-

To lock the end pieces into the roof rails I went to a local stockist of 'UNISTRUT' (found via a search on line) and bought - 8X 4mm tapped channel nuts for the 2000 series track and they fit the roof rails perfectly and only cost aprox 20p each.

I posted this earlier in the year. Mine have been on now for almost 20k miles, damn near constantly loaded with between 2 and 4 sets of ladders without any problems what so ever.

Edited 29.06.04 Sorry but the channel nut should be 8 of, 6mm tapped channel nuts

Yep, it seems that will do the trick, off to Halfords now to find the feet and find a hardware store for the Unistrut nuts.... will keep you posted.
                    Thanks,

                            Surf roof bars

Mine came with them fitted. They're 4 'mini' bars about 8" long, fitted into the roof channels, which would allow you to clamp on a rack designed for 'normal' euro roof bars. Theyre by a company called RV-Inno (http://www.innoracks.com/) They're american (Jap parent company so I guess mine came all the way from Japan with them on), but I guess they could mail you a set.

Failing that, the Thule "clamp-on" alternative (in their book for a MK5 Hilux crewcab) work really well (had those on my previous surf)

                            Good luck
