spare wheel carrier

I was thinking of fitting a rear wheel carrier for my surf. I don't like the idea of the spare being underneath body. Is it easy to fit a retrospective wheel carrier, or could I source a rear door and carrier from a scrapped surf. Appreciate any hints. Thanks

Rusty has done it on his, you could fit to the existing tailgate however you need to add some reinforcing behind the mounts. The Surfs with the factory wheel carriers have reinforcing plates behind the mounts welded to the inside fo the panels. Even if you buy a new tailgate there are 4 holes that you need to reinforce on the drivers side rear pillar.
