I have a whistling or whine on my 30 surf which increases with engine revs
Runs lumpy when warm and cam belt is loose when warm , but retightens when turned off and on ??? My good friend said its a bearing in the
pump trying to sieze causing the oil pressure to drop any clues would be a great help

Cam belt jumped a tooth due to knackered tensioner?

rather than worrying about it, as a cambelt is a major engine component, get that and the tensioners changed soon as you can.
well, that was a bad idea!

        Whistle / whine

Hi thanks for the advise the head / cambelt and tentioner were all new
This is why my friend says its the pump , if it is that the diesel pump
Is trying to sieze im told it will try n lock up the bottom end causing low oil pressure end causing the tentioner to become loose
I have not started the truck since but cam belt is now tight as it was started from cold a few days ago , at cold it runs lovely

That's crap. The tensioner is hydraulic but has nothing to do with engine oil pressure. Don't listen to friends.

you have a 3.0ltr KZN130 so changing the cam belt and tensioner is a fairly strait forward job. Just remember to be careful with the timing marks, you'll get plenty of help and advice if you ask here !! (not your friend), Like Nev's advice!

              This sounds promising then

              Thnks again for the advice
Seems strange that it runs well from cold but if you let it warm up the tentioner becomes loose , but when left to go cold and restarts the belt retightens , but I will try a new tentioner before anything else thankyou for that
My friend is a gooooooood mechanic so I do lisern to what he says as so many times he has proved me wrong lol
So what is the load whining noise coming from the pump area this increases with revs , both in pitch and volume ?
It does sound like a bearing to be honest ?
Could it have jumped a tooth ?
I know with v8 s they still run if its not timed right
Again any info would be great thankyou

                  Whistle / whine

If the tentioner is hydrulic it must run from the oil pump ?
If so if the engine is running rough when warm the oil pressure would be dipping when running eraticly ??
All my motors are from the 60s my cresta has a fuse board with only 4 fuses !!! Lol and they run everything , im not scared of a challange but modern engines ,twist my head lol thanks again for your input

Is this what you or your mechanic pal thinks?
Has he or you had the timing belt cover off yet?

                      No

Nothing like the old chain tensioners which did this. Been a long time since I had anything to do with one of those.

The tensioner in the 3 Ltr surf is just a pulley on a bracket, that pivots and is pushed against the belt by a small sealed hydraulic cylinder.

Your noise could be a bearing, but you need someone to take the cover off and have a look.

                        Yep

Yep had the cover off before we took the pump off , I took the cover off when it was warm and making a hell of a noise , the belt was real loose , I could turn it over half way round , put a screwdriver under the tentioner and with eas levered it up , left it to go cold and restarted it and the tentioner moved agatinst the cam belt and the belt became tight again

Why did you take the pump off?

Kerosene (Heating oil) won't harm your engine.
Do you know that, with a 50 character limit, it's

The belt was loose I could turn the belt over half way around I put a screwdriver under the pulley and with ease I was able to lever the wheel , I left it to go cold and restarted it and saw the tentioner move against the belt I turned back off and the belt was then tight and it ran smooth again , as it was running real rough when warm
