Good Luck mate
The old one is a Nippon Denso which I seem to recall reading somewhere is a manufacturer that it is perfectly possible to refurbish & uprate/upgrade.
Thing is at the mo that I'm pretty short on cash for the time being so I'm just going to have to get by with what I've got for now.

These will fit the Surf if anyone is interested. About 267.25 British Pounds plus whatever to post. Don't know if the same is available over there.

Righto - the old alternator is back on the Surf now & I can carry on as before. Having junked some more of the air con system, access to the alternator is now a helluva lot easier than it was so when the time comes to sort it out properly at least it'll be a fair bit less faffing around to do it.
Also, having taken it apart once already I know exactly how to do it again so no more scratching my head trying to work out where all the bolts are and how to get the best access to them!
While the alternator was off I took the opportunity to clean some of the accumulated crud from around that bit of the engine. Loads of oily mud for a start. I also recovered several washers and a couple of bolts that had obviously fallen down there at some point in the past...
