another silly question

soz guys
ok so im aware the earlier gen 3's has the same running gear has the gen 2, so how can you tell if it has the gen 3 running gear. i thought there might be extra postions on the 4 wheel drive selector for example the gen two 4 wheel drive just has hi and lo, and the newer gen 3 has hi and low also low plus and hi plus ? or am i talking al oad of rubbish, can someone tell me

The transfer levers have different markings on the top.

Multi-mode has several lever position options. Standard transfer case levers have just two lever position options.

A 3rd gen with the multi-mode transfer case will have a 4WD icon on the dash between the tacho and speedo.
