How the hell did you get a blown head mixed up with a leaking water pump?
Do you know that, with a 50 character limit, it's

Because the water pump was also in need of replacement.

And you didn't notice the blown head symptoms until after you did the pump?

the pump was leaking, I guess it was blowing coolant out past the seal due to pressure, rather than a really bad seal, a new pump with a tighter seal would then make do the more normal lift the rad cap and dump coolant into the expansion tank or drip in the bores when turned off.

or they didn't refill it properly, and it has NOW blown the head.

          Just a couple of guesses...

No, because suprisingly I would not have paid for a new water pump had I noticed any of the symptoms. Prior to the new water pump there was no smoke and no obvious pressuring of the cooling system.

That's pretty much word for word what the garage said.

Perhaps that was their excuse for breaking your truck?

Don't get arsey, I'm only trying to find out if the truck was OK before the pump was changed.

Oh, well I guess it was fecked before new pump but just not in an obvious way.

                      Or they broke it.

Its pretty sad reflection on most garages that this was first thing I thought off, but you can never really tell.

I hate doing coolant flushes on trucks people have literally just bought, in case I flush out the radseal the crooked seller has lobbed in, then I clean and flush them properly and refill with nice fresh coolant and it gobs the lot out on the persons trip home and they discover its not just a bargain truck as they thought.

I thought it right away too.

I've done it outside someones house, tis no biggy.

You'll not need the bottom half of the pump housing you normally get in the box, unless its damaged, then you DO need to remove the cam belt to change this. But if you're just replacing a leaking pump its ok.
Are you able to buy JUST the pump, without the bottom half directly from Toyota? Anyone have a part #? I looked on TOYODIY but couldn't find it.

Anybody know if this is available for purchase on its own, or do you need to order the entire water pump assembly?
