  • Toms Farm, Wales

Anyone heard of or been to Toms Farm near Rhayader, Wales?

Some of my mates went there a couple of weeks ago and it sounds great, acres of land to drive around on, no set tracks or restrictions and Tom himself seems very friendly - quite cheap too (but can't remember how much they paid). Also you can camp there overnight if you want for a bit more dosh. Lots of bikes about but 4x4's welcome too and the place is big enough for you to get away from everyone else if you want to.

We are going to arrange a trip there soon and this time take our motorbikes too.

The information below is from another forum (MotoX) and I do not know how old or accurate it is, so don't have a go if its wrong!:

Open any day, as long as there's nothing special happening - better to ring first to check. Costs £7.50.

Tom's Farm MX and Enduro courses. Give Tom Breese a ring on 01597 870202 for details (practice your Welsh placenames first though). Open 7 days a week from 10:00 all year round.

The farm's called Cwmderw, Landranger map 147, ref. 030-787. It's a 600 acre hill farm, with a 16 mile enduro course, and a couple of MX courses laid out by the local lads. Gerraint Jones uses it for his school, and it's part of the 2 day. 4 wheel drives also welcome. Watch out for the monster hill, at least 2 people have been airlifted to hospital with smashed legs, after riding off the top of it! You don't have to stick to the courses, anywhere goes.

Directions: From the center of Rhayader (the clocktower), take the A470 NW towards Llangurig for a few yards. Then right onto B4518 just after arts centre/cinema/whatever-it-is, signed to St Harmon. Go through St Harmon & keep going to Pan-y-dwr. Turn right by pub/phone box towards Bwlch-y-sarnau. When you get to a junction on a right-hand bend, go straight on - not right to Bwlch. This should take you into the forest. Look out for a left turn just after a right-hand bend, & take it. Follow this down, through the gate at the end of the forest, & behold the wonderland [These directions are spot on, Ed.]
