Roads through Imber will be open on the weekend of the annual St Giles’ Church service, however
as a concrete platform to enable tanks to manoeuvre across the road is being built at the Joan a
Gore Cross entry point, the Imber to Joan a Gore Cross road will not be open to vehicles but walkers
and cyclists, with care, will be able to pass around the outside of the road works.
ACCESS
Access to SPTA is regulated by Salisbury Plain Military Lands, Bulford, Larkhill and Imber Range
Byelaws. This Newsletter is published up to 6 weeks before the event and changes may occur.
Access timings for the next week can be found on the SPTA Walks Line: (01980) 67 4763.
Always comply with local signs and flags.
Public rights of way located in range danger areas are closed when red flags are flying.
Larkhill Ranges
No firing is planned for: 8, 9,15,16, 22, 23, 29 & 30 Sep.
Note: Due to the risk of “cook off” from unexploded ordnance the range is closed during fires.
Bulford Ranges
No firing is planned for: 1, 2, 8, 9, 22, 23, 29 & 30 Sep.
Imber Ranges
The public are excluded except when the roads are specifically opened and access is then limited to
three tarmac roads. It is planned to open roads through Imber as follows:

Note. St Giles’s Day is celebrated each year with a church service in Imber. Unfortunately, due to
essential road works, the road from Imber to Joan a Gore Cross will not be open.

(Only the road from Warminster will be open)
21 Dec (1600) 7 Jan (0800) Christmas and New Year

TRAINING
4th Mechanised Brigade will finish their pre-Afghanistan Ex PASHTUN DAWN and large convoys of
vehicles will leave Salisbury Plain on the afternoon and evening of Sunday 2 September and
throughout the day on Monday 3 September.
Some disruption may be caused to civilian traffic at tank crossings across the Plain and on the A303,
A360, A345, A338, A3026 and Chitterne/Tilshead roads. The remainder of the month of September
will see very low levels of training with a slight increase in the last week when a Land Warfare Centre
Territorial Army exercise and two squadrons from the Queens Own Yeomanry in CVRTs conduct
reconnaissance training across the all areas.
There will be late firing on Larkhill Ranges on: 4, 6, 11, 13, 18, 20, 25 & 27 Sep.
AS90 Firing from Tilshead, Chitterne, Shrewton triangle: 20 & 21 Sep.
Complaints about Firing Noise should be made to (01980) 620819.
Military Flying – Helicopters, Hercules (C130) and fast jets may be active at any time. Fox Covert
& Everleigh Dropping Zones will be active for most of the period.
Complaints about low flying should be made to 0207 218 6020 or e-mail lowflying@mod.uk.
Provisional Dates for Future Major Exercises. During the following access may be restricted on
Larkhill Ranges and in the Chitterne – Shrewton – Tilshead Triangle north of the B390.
