  • Coolant Leak from Drain Plug

AHH! I need more help, I had coolant dripping out of the drain plug on my 91 2.4. I tighten it up the other day but it has now started to drip again. I have tried tightening it but it seems to be going round and round, not getting tight and continuing to drip!!!

    Help please! Thanks.

new plug, they're just plastic/nylon with an O ring on, if the o rings perished it'll leak but by the sound of it you've chewed the threads, a motor factors should have them. H

If you need a quick fix wrap some PTFE tape round the thread & screw it back in.
If its not broke don't fix it.

        Hi,

Many thanks for the replies, the thread on the plug was messed up however couldnt find anywhere that would supply that specific one! Went down to my local garage and they put some black stuff on the end and told me to now crew it in and it seems to have stopped it! Unfortunately I didnt catch the name of the stuff.

        Thanks again for your help!!

        Ed.

Probably silicone and probably only a temporary fix. You don't want the plug falling out when on a long. fast drive. Get a new one - they shouldn't be difficult to find. I bet someone on here has a spare sitting in an old radiator.
