bonnet stuck closed HELP

hi people. im just about to do a service on my 3.0td manual hilux surf ssrx. but the bonnet release cable is not working. how do i get the bonnet open without to much hassle. or am i in for a right pain in the bum job.
cheers. help asap would be great as it really needs a service.
