Speedo head burnt tracks

Anyone know of why the speedo head burns out tracks? Mine is burnt up fixing tracks the now and changing burnt components but would like to know what causes it .
Ecu??
4wd unit??
Bad components?

As all speed pulse runs up to speedo then off to other components.
