Possible wrong mirror/window console???

I have just bought a 1990 SSR Ltd 2.4, everything seems ok but the electric mirrors do not work,(the windows and central locking are fine) I have found the cause of the problem after removing the window/mirror switch console located on the door and found that a cable does not fit correctly onto the console, the console it self does not look like the original one as it does not fit perfectly, is there differant types of consoles if so where could I get the correct one, or is there another way of connecting it up.
