OK, just thought I'd throw in my two bits on this one. I put the washer against the plate as shown on the Aussie web site and I must confess that the difference was notable when not loading going uphill etc. However I did notice more black smoke. Now I have Cable tied my EGR, but I have a feeling that the Valve may be stuck open open (which I understand is a common problem) So will get a mate to make a blanking plate before long and see if that helps. .
The Aussie site recommends using 2mm washers, I used 2 x 1mm washers and I will probably take one out this week end to see if it reduces the smoke but still gives me enough power to pull a old heavy horsebox.
The noticable difference for me was that I could tow 800kg quite easily at 60mph and did not need to keep flicking the O/D on and off as I did when the I first bought the Surf towing the same weight.
So give it a go but heed the warnings about overboost.
