Greetings.
I am new to the forum and have just purchased a 1999 Toyota Surf, petrol 2.7liter. It was originally sold in Japan and 3 years ago it was sold and shipped to a man here in Mozambique (Moz). Being new to this I discover that this vehicle might require a scanner that is not like the US version OBD II (I am from the US originally). I found this statement on a US-based scanner manufacturer's website: "In general foreign vehicles prior to 2008 will use the 9141 or KWP2000 protocol." Will an OBD II scanner work? I have one of those. Can someone tell me if I need a different scanner in order to read the codes for my 1999 petrol Surf? It stalled on me the other day and I had to have it towed. This is no small matter here in Moz. I am in need of an answer asap so that I can decide if I must meet with a mechanic. It's my only driver.
Thank you much for your help.
David
