Hi All,
Just joined the forum however have done a lot of viewing over the last couple of weeks as i just bought my first Surf.
Couple of weeks ago i bought Hank! A Black L Reg Automatic Hilux Surf 3.0 SSR-G Limited.
All has been going well, been using him as an onsite vehicle for festival work (one of the main reasons i bought him). When bought he had just had a new head, radiator and alternator.
However disaster struck last Sunday. Driving down the motorway the water pump completely gave way and emptied the coolant out. There were some warning signs so i was already going reasonably slow and as soon as it happened i turned the engine off and coasted into the hard shoulder and turned the heating on to help cool the engine.
Just got him back after a new water pump fitted and he now has a loud ticking noise. Starts at bang on 1500 Revs and follows Revs. Every now and then it will go away but not for long. Just tried to take a video of it but its not happening now however to me the engine just don't sound right anyway.
I have a feeling the ticking noise could be the turbo. as its not constant. He's cooling down at the moment so will go back out in a bit and see if i can record the clicking noise.
I'm really worried that the extreme temperatures from the overheat have caused some engine damage - I've read a lot about it on here.
So first off please check out this video for engine noise sounds like a tractor.

I have some engine knowledge but haven't worked on one in about 8 Years. Used to repair old Ford Escorts all the time in my Youth
Any help will be greatly appreciated!!
Hope its not too bad - only had this truck a couple of weeks and fallen in love with it already!
Thanks
