Coolant leak

Not leaking after a whole day driving around. Gave it a good spirited drive as ell, and no issues. Gonna do the Viscous fan mod next, as I have a job coming up requiring a load of bricks and blocks - good opportunity to test the new set up with a heavy trailer

Well, the new pump is fitted, will see in the morning if it's leaking...
After reading this was gonna be an easy job, here's my version.
~Upper Rad shroud came off in 2 pieces - it had split in half. Not much good.
the NEW alternator (fitted a few months earlier) didn't want to slacken off, without the help of a wooden stake and mallet...
after that the belts came off okay
4 bolts and Fan came off easily
All the bolts and nut for the WP came out easy enough - keep 'em in order, starting from top and work round. there is a nutted stud and a short bolt in the selection. The rest are long threaded bolts.
Pulleys and WP fell off. NICE!
interim flush. WD40 all over the area (oil leak from rocker cover me thinks) disconnected heater pipe going to hot/cold valve on bulk head. (the one on the passenger side) A hose pipe fits exactly inside this pipe. Flush untill clear - it will run out the WP hole though. Take the Rad cap off aswell...but then replace!
dry off WP mating surface and WD40 clean.
The gasket doesn't need sealant to keep it in place, there are some lugs and the nutted stud to keep it in position....
replace the new pump
Now, in MY case, the nut on the nutted stud wouldn't tighten up, so had to take out - luckily the stud came out aswell, so I went to BnQ and got an M6 70mm bolt and washer to replace
Do not overtighten these bolts, they're only little uns...
Flush again. rad cap on.
reconnect all the bits you've took off...
remove bottom hose from Rad.(after removing bash plate to gain access) Flush again. more rusty cr@p will come out...
when clear, re attach bottom hose and Hot cold hose on bulk head.
Refill from Rad with coolant.
Yet to see if it needs burping... but this little lot took me the best part of the day. I'm not a seasoned mechanic but be aware it's not a 2 min job for anyone!

I'd leave it on, on a vehicle with overheating issues you want to reduce the fan assisted air going through the rad?

I really would leave it.

Red baron...you are so right and I have had a DOH moment..water= gasket of course and I remember fitting it..sorry for being a twit.

all went ok apart from that damn rad cowel, im ditching it, cant be arsed to try to re fit it.

I'd leave it on, on a vehicle with overheating issues you want to reduce the fan assisted air going through the rad?

Gasket

I will take your word that it comes with a gasket......my not remembering one is prob down to old age...fitting was easy enough..

All metal to metal surfaces where the transfer of fluids occur employ some kind of seal,o ring, gasket, washer!
Here is a picture of the KZN130 Water pump with its gasket.

Woolfracer, attatched is a copy of the Engine fluid capacities from Toyota.
10 ltrs in the cooling system.

I think it's about 7 litres ish in capacity, plus anything extra you use to flush the system.

Deffo comes with a gasket....RT say its on it's way, so that's my weekend sorted! Flush (how many litres of new coolant?) new stat, coolant and pump.

Then I need to start finding my oil leak...but that's a different thread...!

Hi woolfracer, no repairable parts on most water pumps all sealed units. I fitted the roughtrax pump when i changed the cylinder head some 4 years ago and no issues. The gasket comes with the pump.

Cheers, new one on its way. Treated myself to a nice new steering damper as well, seeing as I'll be in that area! And the original one has surely got to be shot by now - its so small!
